Voting Equipment Controversy

2004

The Center for Voting and Democracy has collected links to a number of sites that address the fairness and security of modern voting equipment. We urge readers to get involved in this timely issue.

  • American Association of People with Disabilities: AAPD opposes voter verified paper ballots

  • Black Box Voting: Bev Harris' site focuses on potential problems with touchscreen voting equipment.

  • The Caltech/MIT Voting Project: "A Preliminary Assessment of the Reliability of Existing Voting Equipment."

  • The Century Foundation: "Understanding the Debate over Electronic Voting Machines." May, 2004.

  • Citizens for Ethical Government: Resource for news coverage concerning voting equipment.

  • Civilrights.org: Founded by the Leadership Conference on Civil Rights (LCCR) and the Leadership Conference on Civil Rights Education Fund (LCCREF). Link to Help America Vote Act (HAVA) advocacy resources.

  • Common cause: Statement on voting equipment says it is critical to provide a voter-verifiable paper audit trail.

  • Committee on House Administration: Letter written by the authors of HAVA addresses possible concersn.

  • Electionline.org: The resource library is a growing collection of resources pertaining to election reform

  • Electronic Privacy Information Center: News coverage and online resources regarding voting equipment controversy.  In addition, provides an overview of HAVA, including problems with Direct Recording Electronic (DRE) voting machines, privacy implications related to DRE, and alternatives voting systems.
