An experienced civil rights attorney, Torrey Dixon has run FairVote’s projects in North Carolina since 2007, focused in particular on outreach and education about the National Popular Vote plan for president, instant runoff voting and advance voter registration and civic learning. He has addressed numerous student groups in North Carolina and Virginia, testified before the state legislature and city councils, conducted several media interviews and organized active coalitions of civic groups and reformers. On the National Popular Vote plan, he produced a highly praised video about the proposal and led the initiative within the NAACP that resulted in his making a presentation of the issue to its national convention and an organizational endorsement. He has developed extensive connections in North Carolina's civic community, as evidenced by FairVote North Carolina’s strong and active group of state advisors. 
 

Torrey D. Dixon is a graduate of Averett University in Danville, Virginia, where he was valedictorian of his graduating class. He received his law degree and master's of theological studies degree from Duke University in 2004. Dixon was a legal research assistant with the Southern Christian Leadership Conference and served as a clerk with the Danville Circuit Court in Virginia. After graduation in December 2004, Torrey worked as a paralegal with the law firm Womble, Carlyle, Sandridge & Rice. He was a fellow at the Civil Rights Center, UNC Chapel Hill School of Law, from July 2005 to May 2007.
