Joleen Garcia

Joleen Garcia joined the Center for Voting and Democracy in January of 2002 as the Community Education and Voting Coordinator in Texas. Joleen has lived all her life in Texas. Born in El Paso, she graduated from Texas A&M University and now lives in San Antonio.

Joleen has guided community organizing on issues of womens rights as well as social, economic, and environmental justice. She is particularly devoted to developing leadership and future organizers among youth. Currently, she is an active member of the National Organization for Women, a volunteer with the Esperanza Peace and Justice Center, and a co-organizer for the annual Xicana Xicano Youth Conference in San Antonio.

My hope is that with the growth of the Latino population comes greater opportunities to advance the social and economic justice issues of Latinas and Latinos. Much can be achieved for our communities by having true and full representation at the policy-making table of government. Joleen is working to positively influence racial minority representation under 54 Cumulative Voting jurisdictions in Texas.

Joleen can be reached at [email protected]
