Getting in Touch with Your Legislator
Your local State Rep and State Senator are your direct link to representative democracy. Your voice, as a voter (or a soon to be voter), matters to them. YOU have influence with your legislator, and asking them to support reforms like Youth Voter Pre-registration, 17 year old primary voting, or the National Popular Vote plan will make a difference.

Send an email, make a phone call or write a letter asking your legislator to prioritize the issues you care about. Remember to include the bill number, your name and town.

Sample Call Script
-Hi, may I speak to Senator/Representative _____?
-My name is _____. I live in _____. Do you have a moment to talk?
-I’m calling about H 5005 and S 85, bills that would let 16 year olds pre-register to vote. I wanted to let you know that I support youth pre-registration because it would welcome young people into the civic process, helping our next generation become life-long voters and participants.
Pre-registration could even make our voter rolls more accurate, by registering more people in structured environments like schools and the DMV.
I’m proud that the General Assembly passed youth voter pre-registration, in 2006, 2007 and 2008, and I hope that you will make passing pre-registration a priority.
