The San Francisco Instant Runoff Voting Defense and Education Project was highly successful in meeting its goals. Those goals were: 1) to build and maintain support for instant runoff voting (IRV), which was adopted by voters in March 2002, initially was scheduled to be used in the November 2003 city elections and ultimately first used in November 2004 city elections; 2) to assist community-based organizations that serve people of color and other traditionally under-represented constituencies in promoting effective participation in San Francisco's first IRV elections in November 2004.
