Incumbents coasted in 1998, with Democrat Bart Gordon the only one to face much competition in a district that saw a big drop in Democratic performance in 1996. All of the remaining districts well-match the incumbent party except for John Tanner's District 8, where Tanner seems safely ensconced. Three incumbents face no major party opposition in 2000.
