Yes On Three

Parties know they'll lose power if amendment passes

The treasurer of the Pierce County Republican Party, Erika Cranmer (letter, 10-25), does not speak for the voting public when she criticizes Amendment 3 for instant runoff voting. Some party bureaucrats like Cranmer oppose Amendment 3 because they will lose power if voters have more control over their elections.

Most voters dislike the pick-a-party primary, and that includes Republicans as well as Democrats and independents. Amendment 3 would replace the pick-a-party system with instant runoff voting, a better voting system, for most county offices.

I strongly support The News Tribune's opinion that "this is an experiment in democracy worth trying" (editorial, 10-22).
