Election Weekend Act
On April 14th, Representative Alcee Hastings introduced the Election
Weekend Act. This act requires that all federal elections occur on the
first consecutive Saturday and Sunday of November. 20 states do not
have laws that require employers to grant employees time off to vote on
Election Day. Moreover, few other countries hold their elections on a
single weekday. Passing this bill will simultaneously allow the United
States to move beyond 18th century conceptions of democracy while
easing irrational restrictions placed on voters.Read H.R. 1647
