The House's lone independent Bernie Sanders now essentially is a Democrat, with the Democratic Party discouraging Democratic opposition -- a result that gives Vermonters a two-choice system, if nominally a multi-party one. Vermont did not see as big a Democratic jump as seen in the rest of New England.
