Democratic Party Adds IRV to Platform
January 2004
On January 17-18, 2004, the California Democratic Party added
the following paragraph to the Political Reform plank of its
platform:
Alternative Voting Systems. Explore alternative voting systems including
the use of instant runoff in special elections to fill vacancies to reduce both
campaign and election expenses and in general elections to prevent well-meaning
but misguided third-party voters from spoiling the election of Democrats. The
