Nabors elected StudCo president
Defeats Jackson, White; Jordan chosen executive vice president, McLaughlin vice president for administration, Popova vice president for organizations

UVA student electionsNewly elected Student Council and class council officers were announced last night as candidates gathered in Newcomb Hall to await results.

Third-year College student Darius Nabors was elected Student Council President with 2,779 students ranking him as their first choice in the second round of instant runoff voting, defeating second-place finisher Greg Jackson.

Nabors gave a short speech after his victory was announced, congratulating election winners and encouraging all candidates to stay involved with the University.

Second-year College student Nicholas Jordan was elected executive vice president, while third-year College student Anna Popova was elected vice president for organizations.

Second-year College student Jeffrey McLaughlin was elected vice president for administration as he claimed 2,493 first-choice votes, over former VPA Okey Udumaga, who earned 1,896. Udumaga left his position last month after fellow members of Council's executive board said they had asked him to resign for failing to appropriately perform the tasks of the VPA position.

In addition, first-year students Samrawit Feleke and Erin Goldson and second-year students Eric Howlett and Victoria Ingenito were elected Council's College representatives.

The Engineering, Law, Nursing and Education representative positions were uncontested. These positions went to third-year Engineering student Peter Sauerwein, third-year Law student Everton Morris, second-year Nursing student Sarah Boschung and second-year Education student Tara Bascom.

Third-year Shiho Nishiyama was elected Architecture representative.

Nabors said he feels confident in his new board.

"I've worked with most of them to a great extent," he said. "I think it'll be a great team and we'll work well together. I'm very excited."

The newest leaders of class councils were also announced last night.

Third-year College student Ross Baird was elected Fourth Year Trustees president. He will be joined by Fourth Year Trustees Vice President Chris Burger, a College student.

Second years Christine Devlin, an Engineering student, and Laura Hussey, a College student, were elected Third Year Council president and vice president, respectively. First-year Engineering student Jack Wilson was elected Second Year Council president. The Second Year Council vice president will be determined Friday at the conclusion of the special election.

The newly elected Arts & Sciences Council will consist of second years Erica Siegmund as president and Megan Roberts as vice president.

Third year Emily Ewell was elected Engineering Council president and will be joined by second year Dexter John Galozo as vice president and Elizabeth Dykes, who will serve next year as fourth-year president.

Third years Katherine Nguyen and Jackie Naso will comprise the newly elected Commerce Council as president and vice president.

Third year Heather Burns was elected Education Council faculty representative.

Third year Katie Davenport was selected Nursing Council president. She will be joined by third-year Lilly Greenwood as vice president.

Third years Karey Helms and Katharine Lafsky were elected Architecture Council president and vice president, respectively.

All council positions will take office in late April.
