Same Day Registration

Hawaii: HB 883/ SB 1073
Sponsor: Congressman Belatti and Senator Ihara
This bill enables citizens to register and vote at the same time on Election Day. It also would set the voter registration deadline at 15 days before the election, from 30 days.
Status: Failed in conference committee January 2008

Indiana: SB 0325
Sponsor: Senator Broden
This bill allows same day voter registration in all Indiana polling places. Voters may obtain a voter registration card on Election Day and fill it out with proper proof of residency.
Status: Held in Committee on Local Government and Elections January 2008

Maryland: HB 801
Sponsor: Delegate Reznik
This bill allows voters to register and vote on Election Day at all polling places using a regular ballot. The voter must also be able to prove residency in order to register at the polls.
Status: Bill withdrawn 3/17/08

Missouri: HB 1822
Sponsor: Representative Bowman
This bill sets up one stop voting sites where voters can register and vote at the same time.
Status: Held in Elections Committee

Washington: HB 2145/ SB 5561
Sponsor: Representative Dameille and Senator Oemig
This bill allows voters to register and vote at the same time on Election Day.
Status: Held in Senate after passing through State Government & Tribal Affairs Committee.
