FairVote is a leader in the campaign to establish a national popular vote for president, and recommends that political parties establish a schedule and rules to promote all states having a meaningful vote in nomination contests.

Time to reform our primaries

Rob RichieFairVote's coalition effort to improve our presidential nomination system, Fix The Primaries, was profilied by The Nation's John Nichols, and FairVote staff have graced the pages of newspapers and journals all across the country as primary season heats up. It's a great time to talk about instant runoff voting over plurality voting, why the parties often use proportional representation to allocate delegates, a sensible primary schedule and more.

FairVote executive director Rob Richie is also barnstorming the airwaves with frequent appearances on radio, talking about what the primaries really mean for our democracy. Listen to an interview and watch a special TV series below.

Presidential Elections: Iowa Votes and New Jersey Joins National Popular Vote Movement

Even as Iowans convened for the first presidential nomination contest of the 2008 presidential elections, the state of New Jersey took a big step toward joining Maryland in the National Popular Vote compact. The New Jersey state senate handily passed the plan, following a successful vote in its state assembly. Gov. Jon Corzine is expected to sign the bill.

Iowa's contest launches a presidential nomination season that FairVote and many others believe should -- and easily could -- be reformed. See our FixThePrimaries.com website.
