Rhode Island Support Required Voter Registration Forms at DMV

Rhode Island State Senator, Juan Pichardo introduced S. B. 719 to require the Department of Motor Vehicles to hand out a voter registration application every time a person applies for a license, renewal of license or state issued identification card. Read S.B. 719

Every state has a system set up where, when a person enters the DMV to receive a license, renewal license, or identification card, they have the opportunity to register to vote if they so choose. In Rhode Island, the bill will require that, if you are not registered to vote at the time you enter the DMV then you will become registered by the time you exit. The state is taking a much more active role in registering its citizens this way, and in correspondence with DMV records, clean voter rolls and a reduction in voter fraud will result.
